Missions Committee

Who are we?

Trinity Heights UMC Mission Work Group is a collection of individuals committed to transformative community and global service projects. We identify at least one project per month to focus our time, talents and monies collected from our congregation.

We loosely meet once monthly (currently on the 2nd Monday at 10 am at Bethel College Coffee Shop) to plan future events and to bring additional opportunities forward for consideration.

In the past year we have participated in “Laundry of Love”, financial support for Camp Horizon, participation in our Newton Community Thanksgiving event, cooked dinner and baked desserts for Circles of Hope, provided snack packs for children weekly at the Summer Educational Activities for Kids program, held churchwide food drive for Harvest of Love and provided support for New Hope, Safe Hope and Ember Hope.

September Work Group Report:

Donations will be made to the Methodist Church for water bottles at the State Fair, and to local Habitat for Humanity. Ongoing training is being completed for the Healthy Congregations monies received from the conference. Allen reported on Homeless and Housing Coalition activities. Pastor Kent reported on a regional group just getting started to look at social justice issues. Decision was made to support our public school teachers with needed supplies for their classrooms.

New THUMC Missions Initiative:

We have become aware of the need our public high school teachers have for additional school supplies for their classrooms. Please consider bringing Kleenex, sticky notes, and expo markers to help their classrooms. Put the items in the grocery basket in the narthex, and the Missions Team will sort them out for our teachers. Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity to Missions.

Current Events:

Laundry of Love- Don’t forget to put your quarters in the jar on the Welcome Center.

Blessing Box- Donate any non-perishable food or household products for those in the community to use.
